Wittgenstein & AI as a unified research field to inform further the AI and AGI development
by C. Stefan at Essentia Mundi, March-June 2024 / [v0.2]
Abstract:
There is a relevance curve of Wittgenstein's ideas petraining to the latest developments in the AI and AGI field. With the development of new language models there is a new period of excitement for AI and AGI research ahead. Anyone concerned more seriously with these new developments would eventually have to look back at the research done in the philosophy of mind and language.
The Wittgenstein & AI initiative aims to look back and forth at this space and bring together a disparate knowledge base that seems to be spread over the 70 years span of computers revolution, since Turing and Wittgenstein debated wether machines can think.
Keywords: Wittgenstein, philosophy of mind, language, psychology, foundations of mathematics, on color, nachlass, TLP, PI, on certainty, lectures, articles, AI, Turing, LLM, family resemblance, language games, consciousness, foundations of AI, reconsidered considerations.
Objective:
The initiative would be focused on the ideas in his work and how is that reflected, or could futher help, the development of AI & AGI field.
The initiative would try to invite researchers to publish their links and articles. Peer review personell also welcome.
The initiative would also make use of the current models themselves to gather simple articles or anything that would help the objectives.
Expectd Results:
A better acknowledge of the Wittgenstein thought and his influence on the field. A knowledge base and better acknowledge of authors and articles. A resource for a proper citation for future works. There should be overall with the help of this, a sensible advancement in the field. And this does not mean a literal forward, progressist movement, but could mean a setback and by that a new demand of: thinking new ways of thinking. Ultimately towards what some definitions like AGI means, what meaning itself, what consciousness, or any other once thought definite concept - now in a new light, is.
